Recognizable by their traditionally high crowns and wide brims, men’s cowboy hats are an essential part of the North American cowboy’s attire. Today these hats are seen globally on the heads of western enthusiasts in the country and cities alike, but they are still recognized as the ranch workers' hat of choice in the Western and Southern United States, Western Canada, and Northern Mexico.
The worldwide popularity of Country Western music has also added to the love of this hat style. From the original King of Country comes the styles of George Strait's signature hat line to the modern cowboy hat collection from young country singer Justin Moore. Rodeo hats worn in competition can be seen on the heads of the athletes on the North American Rodeo Circuit.
Considered as standard attire in the American Wild West, these hats are associated with many of the west’s most legendary characters. Billy the Kid, Wyatt Earp, Calamity Jane, and Buffalo Bill were all known to wear cowboy hats. Well-known actors in western movies, such as Roy Rogers and Clint Eastwood, wore these hats, too.
