Politicians and aristocrats originally wore this flat crowned tall hat with narrow brim, from the end of the 18th century to the mid 20th century. It is sometimes referred to as a Chimney pot hat, High hat, Stovepipe hat, or Topper. Until 1961, United States presidents wore them during their inauguration. Today this style is worn at white tie, top hat and tail events. The hat is also part of Magicians standard attire.
